2002 Texas AGC Outstanding Construction Award Winner

Personal Attention  + Team Building  =  Successful Projects

(DALLAS, TX)  -  July 21, 2002

TR Hall Construction, Inc. is pleased to announce that it
received the
Associated General Contractors of Texas 2002 "Outstanding Construction Award" for the Jesuit College Preparatory School - Arts, Assembly and Athletics ("AAA") Building.

The award was the second major award for Jesuit AAA,
and is the highest recognition given for a construction project in the state.  It was selected from all the projects submitted in its category, between $5-10 million.  The annual award was presented by the Texas Building Branch - AGC, at the state convention in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The finishes for the new addition were designed with the all male, high school student in mind, rough and tumble - ranging from the exposed steel evident throughout, to the open ceilings and sealed concrete floors.  The steel staircase pictured above was shipped to the project without primer, and the steel was allowed to lightly rust.  Then all the surfaces were lightly sanded, and finished with a coat of clear lacquer giving the steel a rich bronze appearance, with the allusion of some texture.  The staircase is back-lighted by a two-story curtainwall, which offers an impressive view of downtown Dallas from the upper floor.

The need for expanding a new assembly hall was one of the top priorities in the master plan.
The new assembly room provides for attendance of up to 1,500 in various seating arrangements, with entry from a spacious lobby through massive oak doors, a glass window wall (and veranda) to the south, offering views onto the athletic fields, and provisions for later expanding the space into smaller meetings with folding partitions.

The most prominent feature in the new Assembly Hall is the faceted-glass cross on the west wall.  A color palette of 57 shades of  glass "glows" in the room at sunset.  Fr. Charles Leininger, S.J., a faculty member at Jesuit, provided the design for the full height cross, and John Kebrle of Kebrle Stained Glass Studio of Dallas produced the masterpiece.  Overall height of the cross is 47 feet - 37 feet visible in the assembly space and 10 feet in the ground floor Ath

One of the more interesting aspects of the design are the exposed concrete walls on the exterior of the building.  Some of the exposed concrete and masonry added on the exterior eventually carried through to the interior finishes, making for durable surfaces in many of the public areas.

At Jesuit the entire campus is considered an art museum - many of the corridors throughout the school have been decorated with

sculptures, paintings, and other types of artwork.  Many pieces of art have already made their way into the new addition for display.   Good Fulton Farrell Architects designed the project.  The firm enjoys a reputation for designing educational facilities, primarily for private schools.  The architect began its involvement with the school and the contractor two years before construction started developing a 15-year master plan.  Their "hands-on" involvement worked well partnering with the school and contractor.
